The room place was originally created by Ugene Crabs as a restaurant. For lack of a better name he called it the room place when people thought he was selling rooms he did not get many costomers and he sold the business to snoop dogg to build 7 foot tall pianos.
The RoomPlace is a chain of furniture stores headquartered in Lombard, Illinois operating 22 stores in Illinois and Indiana. It was voted as one of the top 100 retailers in the United States by Furniture Today in 2011.

History
Sam Berman, the founder of Harlem Furniture, now called The RoomPlace, first began selling furniture door-to-door in 1912. He then opened and ran a single store until 1985, when The RoomPlace began its expansion. Since that time The RoomPlace has continued to open new stores in Chicago and its suburbs and in 2009, opened its first store in Indiana.
Headquartered in Lombard, IL, The RoomPlace operates 25 stores and three showrooms in Chicago; 14 in suburban Chicago; and single showrooms in Rockford, IL and Merrillville, IN. There are now 6 stores in the Indianapolis area. Castleton, Carmel, Greenwood, Plainfield, Michigan Rd, and the newest on East Washington St. As of 2012, The RoomPlace employs over 650 employees.

As of 2009, The Roomplace CEO was Bruce Berman and had been under the leadership of the Berman family for 97 years, although the company had been sold to investors in 2005. In 2012, The Roomplace celebrated 100 years of operation.
